CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Years ago City Council voted to relax local laws regarding business signs in Cape Coral. Now that the economy is turning around, councilmen say the city no longer needs flashy signs, but many business owners disagree.
"According to the city, thats too big of a sign" Mike Shelton tells Fox 4 referring to his large window sign. "So we're going to have to get a smaller sign"
Mike is the manager at Snook Hut bait and Tackle, and if City Council votes to change the sign ordinance, many of his signs will be illegal.
"Theres just more important things to deal with here in Cape Coral than feather banners and A-frames"
Author of the new ordinance Councilman Marty McClain says the new sign rules, won't be that bad.
"This is being done to give uniformity, give you know kinda give curb appeal and make the street, you know make the city itself look cleaner"
The final meeting for council to discuss and vote on the new ordinace will take place Monday September 30th at 4:30 PM in council chambers.
