Sheriffs warn of new phone scams

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummel is warning residents of a new twist on an old phone scam.
According to the sheriff, several people have received phone calls stating that a relative had been involved in an accident with a gangmember and was currently being held hostage. The sheriff says these call have come from the same number in Massachusetts.
Another scam being reported has been a caller saying you have won the lottery and need to send up front costs.
There are no reports of anyone actually sendign in money for these scams.
If you have any information, or yourself have recieved these calls, youare asked to call the Charlotte County Sheriff at 941-639-2101.
Lee County Sheriff's are also warning of a phone scam where someone calls and tells you that you missed jury duty.
The con-artist will tell you there is a warrant out for your arrest and can be fixed by sending money and verifying your personal information.
If you recieve a call like this you are advised to not give out any info and immediatly call Sheriff’s Office Fraud Line at 239-477-1242 to report the incident.
