Bonita Springs toddler killed after struck by truck in driveway

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - A child was struck and killed Saturday afternoon in Bonita Springs.  Lee County deputies were called to the 26000 block of Palm Street around 12:25 p.m. about a truck that had backed up and hit an 18-month-old girl in the road.

The toddler was later identified as

Investigators later learned that 30-year-old Juan De Rios Zavaia Zamarripa went to the home to pick up items for a family gathering scheduled for tonight. After Zamarripa loaded the pick-up truck he proceeded to back out of the driveway and struck the child.

The toddler, identified as Elizabeth Zaldala, was taken to Gulf Coast Hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

Investigators found no signs of impairment and the incident remains under investigation.
