Big dollar checks for Lee county commission race

By Warren Wright. CREATED Jul 9, 2014

FORT MYERS, Fla.- District 4 incumbent Brian Hamman, who was appointed by Governor Scott, and his biggest opponent Sawyer Smith, are raking in big donations as they run to be your Lee county commissioner.

Hamman has raised more than $140,000.

Smith has nearly doubled that with $270,000.

But there is even more money coming through shadow organizations.

You may not be familiar with names like PAC's (Political Action Committees,) or ECO's, Electioneering Communication Organizations, but political insiders use these tools to help raise big wads of cash for their candidates.

One donor even wrote a $50,000.00 check.
