Flooding brings bacteria warnings in North Fort Myers

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Flooding in North Fort Myers is causing more than road problems. Now, health officials are warning about dangerous bacteria in the water. The Lee County Health Department is encouraging people to stay out of the standing water entirely.
- take a bath or shower
- wash clothes
- put on clean clothes
- check open wounds for signs of infection (swelling, redness)
- seek medical care immediately for any signs of infection or stomach illness
Holm said the deparment is seeing an increase in the number of wells that have bacteria in them. Anyone with a well system near flooding is encouraged to get the well inspected for bacteria by the Environmental Engineering Department through the Health Department.
