Tracking the Tropics - Hurricane Arthur continues to weaken as it moves to the northeast at 28 mph. It is currently located about 95 miles south-southwest of Chatham, MA. It has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and a central pressure of 976 mb. Hurricane force winds extend out 70 from the center of the storm, tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 160 miles.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in place for Nantucket and Cape Cod from Provincetown to Woods Hole.
On the forecast path, Arthur will continue to the northeast with some increase in forward speed over the next day or two. It will remain offshore of the mid-Atlantic coast passing southeast of New England tonight and near western Nova Scotia Saturday morning. Arthur is forecast to weaken over the next 48 hours becoming an extra-tropical cyclone on Saturday. Rainfall accumulation of 2-4 inches are expected across extreme eastern Rhode Island and Massachusetts and coastal Maine with isolated areas of 6 inches possible over downeast Maine.
