FORT MYERS, Fla. - Greeting job seekers with a smile and directing them where to go, Alta Resources is embracing its role as the gracious new kid on the block.
That's a good thing, because hundreds of jobs are up for grabs.
"We will hire over 400 people from the local area in the next two months and we will be fully staffed by November," Paul Makurat, Alta's Managing Director, said.
Alta held it's first local job fair Wednesday to get the ball rolling. They are looking for all types of employees.
"Young, old, experienced, brand new," Makurat said.
Miguel Clarke fits into the experienced category.
"I have the customer service background so I know I will be a good applicant for Alta," Clarke said.
Since moving to Fort Myers from Jamaica a few years ago, Clarke has been trying to find a job that makes his family proud.
"I have five kids and a beautiful wife and I just want to be a role model for them," Clarke said.
Dawn Riske is also trying to find a job that fits into her busy family schedule.
"They offer the part time, the full time, so it's such great flexibility. I have been a homemaker for the last couple of years and to kind of supplement income while my children are in school, it's great," Riske said.
Both Clarke and Riske left the job fair with a thank you gift and a good feeling.
"I think I can say I will be one of the first employees at Alta in Fort Myers," Clarke said.
The job fair continues Thursday from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Alta's offices at 12600 Gateway Boulebvard. You can also apply online at joinalta.com
Fresh Market is also looking to hire some workers for their new store in Naples. Potential employees went to their career open house at the Hilton Hotel Wednesday. The grocery chain is looking to fill 80-90 positions.
