NAPLES, Fla. - A Naples doctor is busted during a prostitution sting that netted 10 arrests. Fox 4 has the latest accusations against the surgeon.
Dr. Myles Samotin is a respected physician with the Naples Community Hospital Healthcare System. He has more than 15 years of experience.
"You trust a doctor to do the right thing," said Licuta Cheriza, of Naples.
But now the 51-year-old orthopedic surgeon is accused of soliciting sex from an undercover cop.
"It's surprising that it would happen," said Lucy Caputi, who works next door to the doctor. "Someone that's a professional, why would he need to to do that?"
Just after 4 p.m. on Friday, detectives say Samotin was in a commercial part of the city. He was busted.
Police say Samotin called the undercover officer to arrange a meeting. When Samotin showed up, he offered the detective $150 for both "oral and full sex," according to a Collier County Sheriff's Office report.
Detectives also arrested eight other men for soliciting prostitution and one woman for offering sex.
"That's terrible," said Cheriza.
Samotin could not be reached at his North Street home. The hospital didn't respond to calls for comment.
On Saturday, Samotin bonded out on $1,000.
Three years ago, Samotin was sued for malpractice and paid thousands in fines.
