LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A double fatality crash closed a portion of northbound I-75 Saturday morning between the Daniels and Colonial exits.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before 4 a.m. at mile marker 132. The crash killed 31-year-old Alphonse Casimir of Naples and a passenger in the car he was driving.
The FHP has not released the name of the other man killed in the crash pending notification of next of kin.
The crash closed northbound I-75 for three hours. Investigators say Casimir drove his car into the rear of a tractor-trailer lodging the vehicle underneath the big rig. The tractor-trailer driver was able to bring the truck to a controlled stop.
The FHP says it doesn't know why the crash happened and the investigation continues.
