FMPD searching for home attack suspect

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police Department are investigating a home attack that happened at 8:18 Friday Morning at the Gulf Stream Isles Apartment complex.
FMPD said a man knocked on a woman's door, posed as an employee from the Department of Children and Families. He allegedly barged in and attacked her. She was able to break free and yell for help. But police said he continued to attack her until he saw a maintenance worker and took off.
Resident Deanna Cruz said she already feels unsafe walking through the Gulf Stream Isles Apartment complex.
"People being broke into, the killings that happened last year.: Cruz said.
She said this latest incident is just piling on to the apartments' problems.
"I wasn't surprised here. For the safety of the kids and everything it is just unsafe." Cruz said.
Some neighbors worried it could have been them.
"I'm just scared because I live alone here and I don't want this to happen to me." One neighbor said.
The suspect is described as a white male, early to mid 30's with blonde hair, possibly a receding hairline. He was about 5'5 to 5'7 wearing a purple dress shirt and khakis.
Police are reminding residents to keep doors locked at all times and never open to a stranger.
