Tracking the Tropics: Slow start to week
FOX 4 Storm Patrol
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - As of morning the National Hurricane Center is only tracking one area of interest.
There is a tropical wave located between the west coast of Africa and the Cape Verde Islands. The showers & thunderstorms activity associated with this tropical wave has diminished during the overnight hours and has a very low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next 5 days.
Cooler waters and dry air are making the environment over much of the Atlantic unfavorable for storm development of any tropical waves. If there is any development with this tropical wave it is likely to be rather slow over the next several days.
The disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico has degenerated into a trough of low pressure with little thunderstorm activity; however, a flow of tropical moisture will continue to move northward towards the Gulf Coast states producing heavy rainfall for those states.
