CAPE CORAL, Fla. - It's a five-percent bonus for all non-union city employees from the city manager down.
In a vote of 7 to 1, with Councilman Chris Leetz dissenting, Cape Coral leaders agreed to reward about 1,200 non-union city employees with this one-time bonus. The cost to the city is well over $1. It comes after leaders agreed on a bonus for the police union back in April.
Councilwoman Raina Erbrick said before the meeting, "Our employees need a little something for morale purposes," she said. "We've asked them to give up a lot over the past few years and this is an opportunity we have to hand a little something back."
Employees would receive the bonus in two parts. Half this year and the rest in 2014.
