CAPE CORAL, Fla.-Buyers beware, the U.S. Postal service is warning about bogus websites charging steep fees to change your address.
Glen Lacoste said while planning a move to Port Charlotte, he needed to change his address.
"I just had to run through my list of things to do to move and I thought I'd do it online to change my address. I stopped the postman to get a card. He said you can do it online it's only $1." Lacoste said.
Lacoste said he went online and typed in US Postal Service Change Address into his browser and clicked on what he thought was the official site. But said his bank statement revealed the truth.
" I checked my account later on and it showed a totally different website charging me almost $20." Lacoste said.
Glen said after giving out his credit card information he later found out he really paid to changemyaddress.com. The company has had 150 complaints filed against it with the Better Business Bureau in the past year alone. It also has an 'F' rating for failing to resolve customer complaints and other issues.
