Push on to incorporate Estero
FOX 4 Staff
ESTERO, Fla. - Fearing annexation efforts by Bonita Springs, the unincorporated Lee County community of Estero plans to push to become a city of its own. The Estero County of Community Leaders met this morning and voted to ask the Florida Legislature to begin the incorporation process.
ECCL chair Nick Batos tells FOX 4 News the first step will be to work with local lawmakers to get legislation ready for the 2014 session. If everything goes the way the ECCL hopes, residents living in the Estero area would vote in November 2014 on whether to incorporate.
The planned area of incorporation would stretch from just east of the Bella Terra community west to the gulf and to communities just north of Estero Parkway south to the northern limits of Bonita Springs.
A recent decision by the city of Bonita Springs to annex part of Estero sparked the ECCL to action.
