PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Swimmers took to the waters of the Peace River at noon today for the Freedom Swim. The swim, described as a "happening" by organizers rather than a race, went forward despite health warnings.
Tests of the water show high bacterial levels which prompted a warning from the health department in Charlotte County.
The event got underway from the beach with swimmers hitting the water at the Charlotte Harbor beach, making their way to Fisherman's Village.
