Double fatal shuts down I-75 SB at MM 107

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla - A crash involving a mini-van and a semi-truck on I-75 SB at mile marker 107 killed two people early this morning in Collier County.

The crash completely shutdown the interstate for a time because the crash involved a big rig carrying hazardous materials.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Toyota mini-van stopped in the outside travel lane just before the exit for Pine Ridge Road.  A tanker truck also traveling southbound hit the mini-van ejecting both drivers from their vehicles.

The dead are identified as 16-year-old Jannelle Arvelaez of Lehigh Acres and 48-year-old Alexander Brener of Land O'Lakes, Florida.

The semi-truck ended up overturning in the grass shoulder.  The tanker was carrying about 4500 gallons of hypochloride (bleach) to Coconut Creek, Florida.  About 3000 gallons spilled as a result of the crash.

Exit 107 will remain closed for several hours until a hazmat crew from Orlando can clean-up the spill.

The crash remains under investigation.
