PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A fight early Tuesday morning over a cell phone resulted in the arrest of a Port Charlotte man on charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated battery.
At about 2 a.m. deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of Evans Street. When they arrived residents told them about a black Ford Mustang had been involved.
Deputies found the vehicle around the block in a church parking lot and inside the car a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.
The investigation showed that a dispute over a stolen cell phone led to the shooting. 18-year-old Mark James Donovan is accused of shooting at the car as it left the scene with a .22 rifle. One shot went through the rear passenger door hitting the victim in the calf.
