CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The home makeover of a local vet's house is complete. The renovations kicked off earlier this month and now a deserving Cape Coral family is moving back into their brand new home.
"I feel like I'm back in the resort that they had me stay in, the Weston Resort," said Teresa Meagher, veteran, and recipient of the home makeover.
Today the renovations of the vet's house are complete and she couldn't be more excited.
"This is more than a dream," said Meagher, "This is more than I even expected."
In just over two weeks, Meagher's home was completely renovated and transformed.
More than two dozen volunteers from the community fixed ruptured pipes in the home and now the family has running water for the first time in months.
"Which means we can take real showers in the house, not the makeshift one I had outside, with a hose," said Meagher.
There's no sign of the house fire either that ripped through the kitchen and dining room, making the house unlivable.
"No fire, no smoke damage, nothing," said Meagher, "Everything has been replaced."
Now the kitchen is equipped with brand new appliances and beautiful counter tops.
All that was left today was to complete a few last minute projects.
"Everything that has been done in this house has been done by the community," said Meagher.
Huge acts of goodwill by the community has Meagher believing she's truly living the American dream.
"I believe the American dream is us getting together, helping people in our time of needs," said Meagher.
