PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The body found inside the garage of a burned out Port Charlotte home Tuesday morning was identified today as 51-year-old Donald Hierspiel.
The dead man was at the center of an incident that began at about 2:47 a.m. Tuesday when the Sheriff's Office received a call that Hierspiel had broken into the home at 725 Riviera Lane armed with a handgun.
The woman inside that home, Cynthia Wofford, says he threatened her. She managed to escape and when deputies arrived just minutes later they found smoke and flames coming from the residence.
