PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County authorities say the body of a man has been found inside the burned out garage of a home that was destroyed in a fire earlier this morning. No identification has been made on the man yet.
Authorities had asked the public's help looking for Donald Hierspiel, 51, who they say was the person responsible for breaking into the home on Rivera Lane and burning it down.
It happened early Tuesday morning in the 700 block of Rivera Lane in Port Charlotte.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Forensics Unit is investigating an arson at the house. The State Fire Marshall says the home appears to be a total loss.
EMS responded to a call for help just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities say Donald Hierspiel, 51, fired two rounds at the victim, identified as Cynthia Wofford, then set the house on fire. The woman was not injured. She was questioned by law enforcement.
Law enforcement is asking for the public's help finding Hierspiel. He is described as 5'10" and 170 pounds with collar length brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen in a blue polo and blue jeans.
