Suspected credit card counterfeiters busted in Lee County traffic stop
FORT MYERS, Fla. - A traffic stop on I-75 in Lee County nabbed a couple of suspected cred card counterfeiters traveling from Tampa to Miami.
The stop on Thursday involved the Lee County Sheriff's Office Highway Interdiction Unit. A detective stopped a speeding vehicle. While speaking with the driver the detective saw numerous shopping bags in the vehicle stuffed with cartons of cigarettes and baby clothes.
The driver and one of the passengers gave conflicting stories about the nature of their trip from Tampa and that's when the driver was asked if the vehicle could be searched.
Detectives found $3,700 worth of high end liquor, cigarettes and household goods throughout the car and truck with receipts from various Lee County businesses. They also found 49 gift cards. But further investigation revealed the cards were counterfeit.
27-year-old Yoandy Alvarez Suarez, 26-year-old Carlos Fleitas and 27-year-old Madelyn Suarez Diaz all were charged with trafficking in counterfeit credit cards.
