New patrol cars hit the streets in Charlotte County
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - The first of the Sheriff’s Office’s new patrol cars have begun to hit the streets this week with a new look and new features.
The new 2013 Ford Police Interceptor vehicles are a specially designed ‘police package’ with features, such as a special suspension system, not normally found on ‘civilian’ models. The new vehicles also feature newly designed decals and lights.
When it came time to order the new cars, Sheriff Bill Prummell wanted to update the look of the cars which have had a similar striping design for many years.
“We needed something new that reflected a modern, professional law enforcement agency,” Sheriff Prummell said.
So Captain Sherman Robinson, the Sheriff’s Office’s Fleet Manager, set about to come up with new designs.
The design that is on the new vehicle won hands down. According to Captain Robinson, the suppliers said the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is the only agency to-date using this particular design.
The Sheriff’s star decal is a new, more detailed looking reflective star.
While the existing patrol cars have mounts for laptops and printers, the new cars have the printer mounts built into the dashboard.
