LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an early morning armed robbery of a Lehigh Acres convenience store that resulted in a chase ending in a crash.
The Lee County Sheriff confirms four male suspects are in custody and a female suspect who was pinned in the driver's seat of the getaway car is in the hospital.
A convenience store worker tells Fox 4 the suspects robbed workers at gunpoint, demanding cash, cigarettes, and other items before taking off.
"Four guys come running in, two with ski masks, two with shirts wrapped around their faces and their heads," worker Charles 'Chico' Glunk said. "The two with the masks pointed guns in my face and (my manager's face) tell him to give them the money, give them the cigarettes, the cigars."
Gluck says there were four robbers and a getaway driver in a silver Toyota Prius that sped off, going the wrong way into oncoming traffic.
Deputies caught up with the car quickly and a chase followed before the Prius crashed at E 5th St. & Glenn Ave. in Lehigh Acres.
A woman was pinned in the car. She was taken to the hospital. Three other men in the car ran into the woods but were later found.
Deputies are interviewing the suspects as their investigation continues.
Inside the vehicle deputies recovered cash, masks, gloves and a Smith & Wesson BB gun.
An extensive canvas of the area was conducted for several hours using deputies and K-9 on the ground as well as the Aviation Unit.
