SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. - Sanibel Island Saturday lost a big piece of it's history.
Former mayor Fraincis Bailey passed away at 92.
Bailey was the longest serving councilmember in Sanibel's history serving from 1974 to 1996.
He held the title of mayor in 1979.
Bailey's father opened Bailey's General Store and Francis took it over after World War II.
Current Mayor Kevin Ruane says his passing 'Marks the sun setting on the era of our community's earliest days.'
Flags on the island have been lowered to half-staff in his honor.
The family is planning a memorial next Sunday the 16th.
