FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Punta Gorda man has been indicted in a multi-million dollar fraud scheme. U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill announced the unsealing of an indictment charging Anthony Michael Defeo with eight counts of wire fraud.
The 48-year-old Defeo faces a maximum of 20 years in prison on each count and a fine of up to $250,000 and restitution to his victims.
The government is also seeking $6,280,580 in money from Defeo.
According to the indictment, Defeo solicited investors for an opportunity involving road improvements on I-75. Defeo misrepresented to investors that he had lucrative contracts and purchase orders with a legitimate corporation engaged in asphalt paving. Defeo took the $6 million plus and diverted it for his own purposes.
