FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - Burglaries on Fort Myers Beach are on the rise. Over the last four months the Lee County Sheriff's Office has investigated 17 residential burglaries along a seven mile stretch of the community.
Investigators say the thieves have been striking rental properties and time share condos, often entering over the dinner hour. The suspects make entry through the door stealing jewelry and cash once inside.
Detectives believe two suspects are behind the crime spree. One will watch the outside of the property while talking on a cell phone while the other will enter by prying open the back door. On two of the burglaries, witnesses described two people in the immediate, both white males, 40-45 years of age, between 5'7" and 6'0" and between 150 and 180 pounds.
Anyone with information on the beach thieves is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
