FORT MYERS, Fla. - Lee County Commissioners moved closer to selecting a new permanent county manager, as they focus on their final five finalists.
The search comes after the last two count managers left under a cloud.
Commissioners met one on one with each of the finalists today.
It was a form of speed dating as candidates roamed the hallways, going from one commissioner's office to the next.
Even before the interviews began it was clear... the commissioners have very specific needs and problems they want to put to rest - in particular the abrupt departures of different department heads and the confusion left by the vacuum of leadership.
Commissioner Larry Kiker said having a sharp business like mind is a definite plus.
But ultimately... the commissioners know its a demanding job that requires someone who excels in a number of areas.
Commissioner john manning said "I am looking for the ability to run a large diverse organization, I'm looking for out of the box thinking , I'm looking for a person who can relate well to not only his or her staff but also the community. I want to see some positive achievement's."
Wednesday, the commissioners will meet as a group and interview each candidate separately.
