FORT MYERS, Fla.- Looking to grab a tall, grande or venti cup of coffee? There will be some new rules to go along with you're morning drink.
"It will be alot nicer to be around there without the smell of smoke. I'm sure they might loose a few cups of coffee though," said Clark Richards.
Starting on Saturday, June 1st, all company-owned Starbucks throughout the United States and Canada will ban smoking in its outdoor seating area. While your lungs might thank you, not everyone thinks that should be the store's decision.
"I think it's wrong. I think people should be able to smoke outside in Florida," said Casey Mcelory.
A Starbucks spokeswoman tells Fox 4 they take pride in providing a comfortable and healthy environment and make that consistent across all of its stores.
"As a non-smoker, I don't particularly enjoy breathing in other people's smoke even when I am outdoors," said Brian Ego.
Customers wondered how will this be enforced? Fox took that question to Starbucks corporate. A spokeswoman tells us the company remains optimistic that customers will comply and the intent is to provide a healthy environment for its customers. The company also adds they will work to resolve any concerns.
"I'm always concerned about second hand smoke and I don't like my dog to breathe it in either," said Leon Smith who enjoyed coffee at the downtown Fort Myers Starbucks with his dog.
Starbucks sent Fox 4 the following statement: Starbucks takes pride in providing a comfortable environment at our stores where customers and members of the community gather. We always value our customers feedback, and we take seriously our responsibility to provide all customers a safe, healthy environment that is consistent across our company-owned stores. We sincerely thank all customers for their support and cooperation.
