NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Man's best friend took center stage at the American Kennel Club Dog Show in North Fort Myers. It's one of the longest running dog shows in Southwest Florida.
While there was a lot of running around in the main ring with the judges, outside there was just as much action with a lot of prepping fluffing and spraying. Everyone gave their all to put their best paw forward.
Cindy Hunt said, "We hand brush and line dry the coat from beginning to end, so its like a five hour job."
With nearly a thousand dogs at this show, handlers want their pooches to stand out. That means helping their animals with their attitude. Cyanne Mamer said, "She looks you directly in the eye and she goes... like she wants to play with you."
Donna Butler said, "His tails up, its not dropped between his legs. and that's another big thing we want- his tails up and shows he is happy."
So whether your long or short, petite or silky, or just one of a kind, handlers, trainers and breeders all say the same thing about hitting the dog show circuit.
Carole Conhaim said, "I have shown in the past and its an addiction."
