Update: Serious crash involves FMPD officer
FORT MYERS, Fla. - A crash late Saturday night sends 3 people and a K-9 to medical facilities for treatment.
The crash happened just before 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Fowler Street.
Because the crash involved an officer, the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the case.
Troopers tell FOX 4 30-year-old Gloria Andrea Santos Uscanga ran a red light heading south on Fowler Street. The officer, 31-year-old Jeremy Hawkins, was going through the intersection on Colonial and t-boned Uscanga.
The investigation showed the officer did have the green light.
The Fort Myers Police Department tells FOX 4 Hawkins is part of a K-9 unit, both Hawkins and the dog were taken to medical facilities as a precaution.
Uscanga was taken to Lee Memorial in serious condition. Her passenger was also transported with minor injuries.
Charges are pending, it isn't known if alcohol played a role.
