Crash injures Collier corporal

CREATED May. 20, 2013

EAST NAPLES, Fla. - A Collier County Sheriff's squad car running with a red light and sirens was involved in a crash Sunday night at U.S. 41 and Rattlesnake Hammock Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 65-year-old Clonicia Cherisol of Naples was driving south on U.S. 41 approaching a green light as Corporal Joseph Negron was running with lights and sirens as he approached a red light and started to proceed through the intersection.

Negron's cruiser was hit by Cherisol's Toyota Highlander.  Negron suffered minor injuries.  Two passengers in his squad car were uninjured as was Cherisol.

The FHP says Cherisol will be cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
