U turn driver kills motorcyclist in Golden Gate

CREATED May. 19, 2013

GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when a driver made a U-turn into the path of his bike at Golden Gate Parkway just east of 68th Street SW.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash killed 26-year-old Urbeil S. Hernandez of Naples.

The FHP says 84-year-old Mary Griffith of Naples was traveling west on Golden Gate Parkway when she attempted to make a U-turn just before 4 p.m.  Hernandez's Harley hit the right side of Griffith's van throwing him from his bike, sending him into the van before he came to rest in the grass.

The FHP says charges are pending the completion of their investigation.

This is the 6th death involving a motorcycle or a scooter in Southwest Florida in the last nine days.
