NAPLES, Fla.- Are patients being taken to the right hospital in an emergency? There are concerns tonight over where stroke victims are being transported.
In a letter written last week, Physicians Regional Market CEO Scott Campbell expressed concerns to Commissioner Georgia Hiller that stroke victims aren't getting the best care. In that letter, Campbell writes,"...in email exchanges between NCH and the county's medical director, it is clear the medical director was working extremely closely with NCH." Hiller questioned whether the medical director is making decisions regarding protocols based on how NCH's market share would be affected if stroke patients were being transported to Physicians Regional's new comprehensive stroke center rather than Naples Community Hospital.
"I have concerns that patients that are the sickest that need our care are not being transported to us and that delaying their care and in some cases compromising their health," said Dr. Eric Eskioglu, Physicians Regional.
