NAPLES, Fla.- A Naples father who blames an ambulance delay for his son's death is another step closer to getting answers. Collier County Commissioners agreed to launch an internal investigation into the EMS system, but stopped short of getting the state involved.
Charles Minard is still fighting for answers. He blames an ambulance for his son's death back in December. Records show a crew waited 5-6 minutes before leaving the station because devices meant to notify the crews of calls, failed.
"He was my best friend, one of my greatest assets in life, we've been fighting with the county," said Minard.
On Tuesday, Minard begged commissioners to consider a state investigation into the county's EMS system. Commissioner Georgia Hiller believes there are concerns with the EMS department's communication system. She says the tones which alert crews of an emergency might be failing on a daily basis.
"...be brought to the attention of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and have an independent investigation, done by the state," said Commissioner Hiller to the board.
