ESTERO, Fla.- A drunk driver hits and kills a motorcyclist in Estero Thursday night after dragging him for nearly 3 miles under her car.
Flashing sirens lit up the darkness on US 41 Thursday after emergency crews responded to a crash around 10pm on Thursday. The accident involved a Lexus and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was pinned under the car.
"The motorcycle and motorcycle driver became lodged underneath the vehicle, the vehicle kept going and left the scene," said Greg Bueno, Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the FHP report, Lee County Sheriff deputies happened to be in the area and witnessed the driver of the Lexus fleeing.
"As the vehicle was traveling, fleeing the scene there were sparks coming from underneath the vehicle and that's what initially prompted their attention to it."
According to the report, the Lexus hit the motorcycle after trying to make a u-turn on US 41 and Constitution Blvd.
"The Lexus was going northbound on US 41 and motorcycle going southbound on US 41."
FHP says the motorcyclist, 54-year-old Carl Patrick of Punta Gorda, died on scene after being dragged under the Lexus for nearly 3 miles.
FHP investigated the crash from late Thursday night until about 4:30 Friday morning. Traffic remained blocked off in both directions on US 41 during the investigation. The driver of the Lexus, 54-year-old Donna Brown of Estero, was arrested and is facing several charges.
"Felony charges of DUI manslaughter and hit and run with death," said Bueno.
