CAPE CORAL, Fla. - 15 year-old, Joel Trespalacios is a huge Miami Heat fan so his mom paid $30 for him to get a haircut that proves it.
The "do" reads "Go Heat" but school officials at Calusa Preparatory Schoolin Southwest Miami-Dade said it's against school policy to have a distracting haircut and sent him home from school.
The boy's mom says she plans to keep him out of school until his hair grows back.
"I want the school to allow it. There's only a few weeks left of school. We are showing our team spirit," said Doris Trespalacios.
A lot of viewers in Southwest Florida siding with the mom.
Irene posted on the Fox Four Facebook page, "Our children are there to learn, not be degraded for their hair. That is going to far."
Teresa wrote, "Since it's so close to the end of the school year, they (the school) perhaps could have issued a different punishment. It just seems so petty, and I don't believe it was done on purpose."
Donna asking "What does the student code of conduct say? That's what you go by, not opinions."
Sharon siding with the school and wrote, "You signed the papers...the school has every right to uphold their rules. What message are you sending your kid...just because you think it is a stupid rule...doesn't mean you can disobey it."
Joel says his hair grows fast so he should be back to school in about a week.
