COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The mother of one of the missing Cleveland women lives in Collier County.
Neighbors of Barbara night said the shock is still settling. Madeline Kelly and Sheldon Gofberg never thought their neighbor would be thrown into the national spotlight. Her daughter Michelle was one of three women, found in a home in Cleveland on Monday.
"They're very nice neighbors it's barb her spouse, their little girl Katie, she's 10 she watched our dog for a week." Sheldon Gofberg said.
But, the neighbors never knew about Michelle and the extreme severities surrounding her disappearance until this week.
" I was accompanied by her husband who took me in his van to home depot to pick up a ladder. He casually mentioned to me on the ride over if I had heard about the incident with the three women who were kidnapped and I said sure, he said one of the girls is Barbara's daughter." Gofberg said.
Barbara Knight admitted the relationship with Michelle was rocky at the time of her disappearance in 2002. But always held out hope she would be found alive.
"Certain people they told me maybe she didn't want nothing to do with me, so but still in my heart I thought no, I know my Michelle." Barbara Knight said.
Thousands of miles away, Barbara's neighbors felt her relief.
"I think it's incredible that they were found, I think it's a sign of the times that a lot of neighbors don't know whats going on right next door to them which is sad." Gofberg said.
But said this story is just getting started.
"A happy ending to a story that still has a lot of twists that are un-known." Gofberg said.
Barbara Knight is still in Cleveland, but hopes to bring her daughter Michelle back to Southwest Florida.
