Bears roam Quail Roost neighborhood in Naples
NAPLES, Fla.- Bears roam a Naples neighborhood and neighbors say the knock over trash cans on a daily basis.
Gina Gasser's dog is getting up there in age and she doesn't want her latest dinner guest messing with her family pet.
"You can deal with a raccoon or an armadillo, but a bear that's over 500 pounds is frightening and I have a 13 year old dog."
Neighbors took several photos of the bears in their neighborhood. They are coming from the nearby wooded area.
Gina is trying to keep tabs on her trash, but she says it doesn't stop them from getting their paws on plenty.
"Their paws, believe it or not, they get in there and grab the garbage out and run into the woods and litter the woods behind my house. It's unbelievable," said Gasser.
So what can be done? Fox called Florida Fish and Wildlife. A spokeswoman says first neighbors have to remove the food sources like trash cans, grills, and bird feeders. Wildlife officials will monitor the situation and only trap a bear if it becomes dangerous.
FWC also mentioned they have trapped a bear in Riverwood Estates, a neighborhood close to Quail Roost, after the bear showed aggressive or brazen behavior.
