FORT MYERS, Fla. - Almost two and a half hours of questioning by the Florida Department of Education's Inspector General's office. It's looking into whether Superintendent Dr. Joseph Burke suspended an active investigation into one of his top assistants, Deedara Hicks. In August of 2011 multiple witnesses reported seeing Hicks show up to work drunk and found several wine bottles in her purse and car. When the district began investigating Burke shut the it down saying it was all related to a medical condition.
This issue and the issue of whether or not Burke mis-appropriated grant money caused at least two school board members to be interviewed thursday by a DOE investigator.
While the Inspector General's office wouldn't comment about this investigation it did say that the department of education will not be looking into any school board members for possible ethics violations.
