I-75 crash leads to heroin bust
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - A crash on northbound I-75 near mile marker 143 in North Fort Myers led to the arrest to the arrest of a Tampa man on drug charges.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 26-year-old Eric Plum veered his Nissan off the highway for unknown reasons hitting a crash barrier in the apron sending the vehicle into the median.
The FHP says Plum then fled on foot but was finally taken into custody by a Lee County deputy on Swan Way at Pelican way.
A search of Plum found 37 grams of heroin along with some other prescription narcotics.
Plum suffered minor injuries in the crash along with a passenger, Jose Rodriguez, 28, also of Tampa.
Plum is charged with trafficking heroin, driving on a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.
