SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - A traffic crash involving a Lee County Sheriff's corporal at Crystal and Plantation in South Fort Myers Monday night landed a Fort Myers man in jail on charges of driving under the influence.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. when the corporal was pulling up to the stop sign as she drove east on Crystal. A red Honda CRV hit the rear of her patrol car and she got out to investigate. As she got out of the car the driver of the Honda hit her vehicle again.
Inside the car was 29-year-old Elliot Thomas Gamble who told the corporal that he wanted to kill himself and that he intentionally rammed her car.
Gamble was taken into custody and another investigator came to the scene and found two large liquor bottles in the Honda along with an open can of beer.
As Gamble was being taken to jail he told the corporal he was going to needed to pee, which he eventually did in the back of the squad car before getting to the jail.
Once at the jail Gamble was given two breath tests which resulted in a .237 blood alcohol content and a .243 blood alcohol content. That's more than three times over the legal limit.
This marked Gamble's third DUI arrest. He was also charged with assault on a law officer.
