FT. MYERS – (FOX4)
It's the second shooting in three days in Ft. Myers. At ten minutes until three Monday afternoon, at precisely the same time the nation was supposed to be having a moment of silence for the victims of the Boston bombing, shots rang out in Pine Manor.
"They told us that somebody open fired though the house," said Marilyn Knott. She had just started to help her son move into a house in the 5600 block of Fifth Avenue on Fort Myers south side.
A car was sitting in front of the house until it was towed to the crime lab for further investigation. It appeared to have been hit by bullets as well. Crime scene investigators taped off not only her house, but also the house across the street. Investigators were on the scene for several hours. Later, from all indications, a search warrant was obtained as they went into the house at 5628 Fifth Avenue.
Deputies told FOX4 a man was shot and was taken to the hospital. Details are limited as the investigation is continuing but Ms. Knott says investigators told her a man was shot three times, once in the chest, and twice in the stomach.
Knott said she was upset when she heard that. "I started trembling. I started trembling and I wasn't even here when it happened." She said her son had only gotten his television in the house when all this happened.
When asked if she realized she could have been hit by bullets she said, "Oh Yea. Oh yea. That's why I was trembling because I have a dog and I walk her outside all the time and I could've been moving stuff in and out and been in the crossfire."
The only arrest so far was a woman who deputies took to jail for driving her car up to the scene while under the influence.
No arrests have been made in the shooting and the condition of the victim has not been released.
