UPDATE: 18-wheeler accident impacts traffic on US 41
PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- A semi-trailer truck laid on its side on Friday for nearly 2 hours after the 18-wheeler hauling construction debris rolled over.
"Mostly wood, rock and other non-liquid material, all solid waste," said Larry Lippel, Battalion Chief for Charlotte County Fire.
The accident happened in Charlotte County on US 41 and Zemel Road.
"Around 7:30 am, Charlotte County Fire and EMS responded to reports of a semi roll-over," said Dee Hawkins, PIO Charlotte County Fire/Ems.
It appears the driver tried to make a left hand turn on his way to the landfill when something went wrong.
"When we got on scene we had fuel leaking from the tanks on its side. We contained and stopped it though," said Lippel.
The driver of the truck didn't speak much English, but walked away unharmed. The trailer blocked off a portion of US 41 Southbound for hours before a tow truck pulled the massive truck upright and crews cleaned up the street.
