LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - Health Management Associates Inc. (HMA) is telling FOX 4 News it will not pursue its efforts to build a hospital in south Lee County.
HMA currently operates Lehigh Regional Medical Center.
HMA spokeswoman Diann Cimring said that external factors such as the current health care environment plus the fact the Lee Memorial Health Systems was planning a hospital in south Lee County led to the company's decision to not move forward.
Today was the deadline to submit final applications to the state.
