Active hurricane season predicted

FORT COLLINS, Co. - The first prediction for the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season finds the experts from Colorado State expecting it to be a busy one.
Colorado State's Tropical Meteorology Project predicts 18 named storms with nine hurricanes. Since 1950 the average has been 12 tropical storms with seven becoming hurricanes.
The forecast came out this morning from Colorado State meteorologists Philip Klotzbach and William Gray .
The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1 and runs until November 30.
2012 was a destructive year with 19 named storms and 10 hurricanes. Superstorm Sandy caused the most damage from the Caribbean to the east coast of the United States.
