NAPLES, Fla.- Will Naples pull the plug on a concert series that brings thousands to the Bayfront Plaza? That is the question tonight as "Rockin' on the Bay" needs its permit renewed. So what happens next? Will the series continue for round 2?
"A panoramic view of the area at Bayfront shows the crowd for one of the concert series, it's unbelievable," said Mike Randall/McQuaid Marketing.
Several concerts have been held at the Bayfront Plaza in Naples in the past and the series wrapped up about 2 weeks ago, but in order to keep the music alive in the future, the concert series needs to get another permit from city council. McQuaid Marketing plans to go before council again next month.
"We're really hoping they grant us a new application for Rockin' on the Bay 2. It would start on July 6 and if approved, it would be the first Saturday of each month for a whole year," said Randall.
In the past, getting approval from council was not a breeze. Some council members worried about crowd control, loud music and parking. Organizers made adjustments so the show could go on.
"With the amount of crowds we've had each week and the music, we haven't had a single incident or one single fender bender," said Randall.
In the meantime, another concert series is starting and the show is moving from the bay to the beach.
"Rockin' on the Bay will be called Rockin' on the Beach, starting April 20th from 12:30 to 8:30 on Fort Myers Beach near the Holiday Inn and Pincher's," said Randall.
McQuaid Marketing hopes to snag some big names.
"Our big goal is come November, December and January...next year in season... to bring some big name groups maybe Zac Brown Band maybe several different country fests," said Randall.
Organizers are still working to keep the concert series in Naples and plan to keep any concerts at the Bayfront Plaza free to the public. The Fort Myers Beach concert series will cost $15 for a cover charge. Proceeds will go to the Friends of the Arts.
The concert will be held on April 20th. Pincher's VP of Business Development tells Fox 4 he is very excited about the concert and additional parking will be available at Lover's Key.
