Short reprieve for Southwest Florida flight control towers
FOX 4 Staff
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Federal Aviation Administration announced it will delay the closures of all 149 federal air control towers including three in Southwest Florida on the sequester hit list.
The control towers at Page Field in Fort Myers and the Punta Gorda Airport were scheduled to close on April 21. The Naples Airport control tower was scheduled to close on May 5.
The new FAA decision will allow those towers to stay in operation until June 15.
The FAA's decision for additional time was made to resolve legal challenges to the closure including a lawsuit brought by the Naples and Punta Gorda Airport Authorities.
