PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The decision not to wear a seat belt landed a Port Charlotte man behind bars when deputies found drugs in his SUV.
A deputy noticed that 37-year-old Eli Mariner of Port Charlotte wasn't wearing his seat belt so that led to a traffic stop. During the stop deputies noticed the driver of the Chevy Suburban Dana Rodgers and Mariner appeared nervous.
Deputies asked if they could search the car and they turned up seven grams of crack cocaine and 2.5 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Mariner.
Rodgers got off with just a seat belt warning while Mariner went to jail on three drug charges.
