HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol says a two vehicle crash just west of Clewiston on U.S. 27 killed a Clewiston woman, seriously injured two others and left three others with minor injuries over the noon hour Wednesday.
The crash happened near County Road 720. The FHP says Berta Alicia Villafuerte, 27 of Moore Haven, was driving east when she apparently failed to notice a Ford Explorer in front of her driven by 42-year-old Francisco Pardo Garcia of Clewiston.
Villafuerte tried to take evasive action by clipped the rear of Garcia's SUV sending it into a spin. Villafuerte then lost control of her Nissan Murano and hit Garcia's vehicle again causing it to overturn.
37-year-old Martha Pardo of Clewiston died when she was ejected from Garcia's vehicle. Garcia was seriously injured. Two children in his SUV, Rodrigo Pardo, 4 and Daniel Pardo, 1, suffered minor injuries.
Villafuerte was also seriously injured. A passenger in her vehicle, Melissa Kay Bryant, 27 of Moore Haven, suffered minor injuries.
Charges are pending.
