CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral resident Nivia Torres was stunned by what she saw on Monday.
"And I'm going, 'oh my God'," described Torres.
She snapped a picture of her neighbor on Everest Street butchering a pig hanging upside down.
"I told the guys that this is disgusting and he laughed and he started gutting the animal," explained Torres.
So, Fox 4 knocked on his door to find out his side of the story.
"There wasn't a tree big enough in the back yard so i had no choice but to hang him on the tree in the front yard," replied Daniel Armendariz.
Armendariz says he hunted the wild hog on a friend's property and had to bring it home.
But Torres said, "If you're going to do it, do it in the back yard don't do it in the front yard when you have people driving seeing something so heartless."
"I'm kinda sorry it was in the front yard but they didn't have to stop to look," added Armendariz. "They could have drove on by."
Torres wants to know if it's legal to gut an animal in plain sight. But according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Armendariz wasn't breaking the law.
"There's no Florida State Statue that would stop an individual from skinning out an animal that they've hunted legally in their front yard, or in their back yard or their side yard," explained Sgt. Randy Hodges.
But next time, to avoid nosy neighbors, Armendariz may prep his pork someplace else.
"Are you going to think twice about doing it again where everyone can see?" asked Fox 4. "Possibly now, yeah."
